Lafitte is a French family with a reputation in the cork industry for supplying the finest cork for over four generations. Beginning in France, the company moved its major production site to Northern Portugal in 1956, in order to be directly involved in the selection of fine cork from the most thriving and sustainable cork forests in the world.
Because of its ideal growing conditions, Portugal supplies more than fifty percent of the cork in the industry. Cork oak trees in Portugal have a life span of about 150 years and renew their bark after harvest every nine to ten years. Through dedicated forest management, Lafitte hand selects raw cork of impeccable quality while preserving the natural sustainability of cork oak trees.
In 2003, Lafitte purchased a second processing plant in Portugal to meet an increasing demand for quality cork production. In 1997, our Portuguese production facility was certified ISO9001:2000, followed by ISO9002 certification in 2003. Since 2000, we have used SPME technology to test corks from every lot to independently verify cork quality for our customers. In our continuing commitment to quality we are instituting HACCP Food certification at our cork production facilities.
In 1982 Lafitte opened facilities in Napa to process cork and capsules for direct sale to North American customers. Lafitte offers corks of the highest quality. Lafitte California maintains a full inventory of cork grades, lengths, and washes for lot selection.
Lafitte California offers a complete range of stock PVC, Polylaminate, Alustar, and Tin capsules at our Napa plant. We can also offer fully customizable capsules manufactured at our facilities in France in a wide array of sizes, colors, and finishes to meet your precise marketing and technical demands.
Lafitte Cork and Capsule is a founding member of the CQC (Cork Quality Council), which sets stringent standards on corks to be sold in the US market. Since 1995, Lafitte California has operated a state of the art QC laboratory with an ozone-infused moisturizing room to aid in ensuring cork sterility, the first of its kind in the US. |

Wine Corks are a part of the Lafitte family story, involving four generations of the Lafitte family. Gaston Lafitte opened the first cork factory in 1918. In 1956, Jacques Lafitte started Lafitte Cork Portugal. The organization has since grown into the worldwide group of cork and capsule companies that is owned and operated today by Jean Francois Lafitte.
